High Hopes for 2012

"My resolution is to increase my commitment to protect all living things. All life is interconnected, from the Universe, Mother Earth (infected as it is with overpopulation and global warming) to animals suffering from the evils of 'Asian' medicines and human inhumanity: elephants, tigers, rhinos, sharks, even our local tokay (gecko).

Our local animal holocaust includes dolphin and porpoise prisons, photo gibbons, the dog meat trade and animal 'husbandry'. Even Phang Nga Bay is a living organism suffering from over-commercialization.

We primates are the most marvellous machine we know, capable of reaching the stars. If we still have compassion, we suffer the pain of the animals which share this planet. They all have souls, intelligence, emotions and families the same as humans"

Dog faces death for attacking a cat

I don't want to call the judge an idiot - it might make him follow through on this ridiculous
sentence.

State your opinion here.

People and Protests vs. Money and Police

photo from Alternet - permission requested
Aside from degrading America, the sad thing about this action is that non-violent protest in the Ghandi tradition is the most powerful tool of change - along with "The pen is mightier than the Sword.

We are living in troubled yet exciting times -
the potential for real change is exciting and possible.

When I went to the UCLA in the early 70's my 4-wall handball partner was a Beverly Hills shrink.  He always claimed that greed is the greatest addiction of all - NOW is the time to discredit (ed - sic) rather than idolise the "Money Addicts".

There's nothing wrong with success, but when people accumulate more money that they can ever spend it just becomes a "Country Club" ego thing - at the expense of the betterment of the humankind!

Japan's Disaster Fund for Whaling - a travesty

photo from Allgov - permission requested
The Japanese whaling industry is still living in the 1930's
                                      - Rape of Nanking, Japanese Medical War Crimes, etc.

I won't insult the millions of decent Japanese by reminding more of their brutal past - but taking money from Tsunami relief to protect the barbarians called the Japanese Whaling Fleet is outrageous (sign here) - and we still have "The Cove" at Tajii going on.

Add in long lines and drift netting and the
Japan can make no claims for "Loving The Seas".

Pain and suffering because of an opinion

Image from Care 2 make a difference
(Ed - John was unable to talk to me regarding this dreadful act in America
- simply telling me)

"It’s time for my Manifesto to Non-violent change"

I take out the words from an article posted by www.care2.com.

Regardless of how you vote or who you worship, tell me honestly, is this the America that you want to live in?
Do you want kids to grow up thinking that beating someone is ok, as long you disagree with their opinion on corporate tax rates?
Does this make you feel free/safe/proud?
Can’t we put aside our petty differences for just one damn second and realize that this is wrong at the cellular level?
WE ARE ALL HUMAN!
Do we not all deserve some measure of basic respect one from another?
I have no energy left to be angry at this injustice. I am just sad. Sad for what unbridled greed and censorship has done to America. A country I love. A country built on the idea that ANYONE, no matter what they believe, could live here and be safe.
That America is disappearing. Will you let it slip away because it’s too annoying/time consuming/confrontational to get involved? Or will you take a stand?

Enough to make you think...

9 Top threatened species

I have read that in the last two months that this has been declared extinct (ed.)
2) Tarzan’s Chameleon

The Red List of Threatened Species kept by the International Union for Conservation of Nature has been updated, and although all of the news isn’t bad, for the most part it’s pretty grim.

Seems like the real race is to see who humans drive to extinction first
 - other species, or ourselves!

Sarkozy overheard telling Obama that Netanyahu is a liar

Well, what else is new?

Don't forget Netanyahu's 57 standing ovations when he addressed the US Congress. It's obvious the Israel lobby has totally corrupted the US Congress. Israeli expansionism is the core root problem of political instability in today's world - fueling islamic extremism.

Now Iran has the bomb.

If history repeats itself, its thanks to Netanyahu and the right-wing jerks who support him.

Hong Kong Airport selling Shark Fin Soup

photograph from Wikipedia
I'm not a big fan of Greenpeace after what they did to Paul Watson, BUT

I was shocked when I flew through Hong Kong and found three restaurants INSIDE the terminal that were openly selling Shark Fin Soup.

It is outrageous that the Hong Kong government allows this at all,
anywhere in the Territory.

It MUST be outlawed in China as well.

Let's see - the Western Black Rhino is extinct, all other Rhino species expect to reach extinction in the next five years. Tigers are extinct in 99% of their previous range - hey guys........... (Ed. - expletives removed)

(Ed. - did you know that Disneyland Hong Kong was originally going to sell Shark Fin Soup?)

The Black Western Rhino is now extinct

All other species are given no more than five years more.
(CNN 15/11/11)

Rhino Horns have NO medicinal value BUT like Shark Fin and Tiger Penis Soup, Chinese 'medicine' is killing our planet. (my posting 24/10/10)

If we can invade Iraq and Afghanistan why can't we put our men in uniform to protect the Rhinos and Tigers? A lot safer and a more noble cause?

Answer: Dick Cheney and Halliburton because they haven't found out how to make money from these causes...
