Dolphins, whales, beaches and plastic bags (Part I)

photo from Telegraph - permission requested
A whale beaches themselves because their sonar system has been disrupted by an increase in chemicals – I would say by the amount of rubbish that we throw / pump into the sea.

According to Dr. Sontaya Manawatthaha of the Phuket Marine Biological Center, every year in Phuket an average of 20 whales and dolphins beach in Phuket and die because they cannot survive in our polluted seas.

These are the cetaceans that survive long enough to make it to our shores. For every whale or dolphin that makes land, an untold amount die at sea.

Ironically, non-biodegradable petroleum products are the major culprits.

Instead of using less plastic bags or recycling in an era of soaring petroleum costs, we throw them into the sea, where they end up in the guts of whales, turtles and seabirds, dooming them to a long, painful and frustrating death.

America's super rich - Traitors and Treason

image from finance.blog - permission requested
(Ed. John has had more than enough with this one...)

The Bush tax cut for the super-rich was pandering to his power base.  And look at what Bush-Reagan did to our Economy.

By rolling them back, we can return to a strong, vibrant economy and come close to balancing the national government budget.  Instead, Obama took so many Wall Street donations he is afraid to roll back Tax Cuts to the Rich.  They are a very powerful lobby.

Instead, Tea Party freaks - who have no understanding of economics or the corner-stones if "America", pander to the rich who are manipulating them - against their own self-interests.

I just had a Hedge Fund broker on my trip who said he CEO makes $500 MILLION/year.  I suggested that making this kind of money without paying his fair share of taxes is TREASON.

These corporate whores prefer to maintain their tax cuts and cut government services that turn America into a two class society - rich and poor, with no Middle Class - the backbone of American Society.

I propose we start telling it like it is, and start labeling the Super Rich and the politicians who oppose rolling back the Bush Tax cut as "ECONOMIC TRAITORS".  Their greed is killing America more than any spy could ever do; it is an ACT OF TREASON.

Let's start telling it like it is - The TRAITORS AND TREASON
movement is killing our country.

Republicans (and Democrats who vote to support the Super-Rich) are committing TREASON more damaging than any Spy.  The short-sighted, greedy Super Rich who refuse to count their blessings and pay their fair share of taxes are TRAITORS – more harmful than spies in wartime.

Let's start telling it like it is!

Bush and his cronies - what did you expect?

It's all in the numbers - Bush embellished the deficit three times more than Obama - and then gave his rich cronies tax cuts - one of the biggest thefts in history.

Did you check out all those congressional wardrobes in the debt-ceiling debates?

You could live like a king until you die with the money all those suits and ties cost for just one session.

Animal experiments

photo from care2.com
John posted in a link on his facebook regarding this story

"...let the researchers experiment on themselves. They are below human anyway
- and I've worked in cancer research - where I learned there is no justification
for such a sick and sadistic study!"

Adopt an animal

photo from WWF
As a wildlife rehabber I've "adopted" thousands of animals.

In the first grade I adopted a white pigeon I named Junior.  It flew to school with me every day and sat on my shoulder in class.  At recess it watched us play from the roof of the schoolhouse.

One day my teacher walked me home, knocked on the door and told my mother that "Little Johnnie" was the most special student in her 30 year career.

I kept on rehabbing, thousands of animals in rapidly developing Southern California.
Now I'm in Thailand and I adopt street dogs and raptors.  My house is a zoo but these animals are my best friends.

(Ed - don't let John visit Phuket Zoo - see Tripadvisor report)
(Ed - Adopt a Species with WWF)

The wildlife comes and goes as it pleases, and the dogs stay in the house and yard, and even sleep with me.  At 66 I'm young at heart and nobody guesses my age.  And I owe it all to the animals I have adopted over the years, something in the thousands by now.

There is no greater privilege than giving an animal a home.  Life is all connected.
