Malama sounds Hawaiian.
I'm so proud of you - reminds me of my own childhood. I grew up in LA, and during the 50's my issue was saving wildlife from rapidly developing LA. I started in 1950 at age 5 when I had "Junior" my white pigeon that flew to school with me and sat on my shoulder in class. We eventually became the Audubon Society drop house and had literally thousands of birds and mammals in our house.
I even lived in Japan for two years - 1953-54 - near Sendai in a 500 year old Japanese house. I want to go to see it again but I boycott everything Japanese including traveling there. I do try to fly through Narita whenever I go to Hawai’i, where I wear my Sea Shepherd hat in the airport and ask the Japanese clerks why they are so brutal to kill whales.
My angle is "Cetaceans are the Humans of the Sea. Killing a whale or dolphin is the same as killing a human. That's murder, and systematic murder s GENOCIDE." Learn to say that in Japanese and watch their eyeballs spin!
When Japan issued an Interpol warrant against Paul Watson, I sent them an email saying “You got the wrong guy. Issue a warrant against Joji Yoshimura, the lawyer for Japanese fisheries – he’s promoting Genocide!”
I cry as I read your posts, not only for the whales and dolphin, but because I'm 65 and you are the new generation. Keep up the good work! You are an inspiration to all of us.
If you can make it down to Phuket, Thailand where I still carry the wildlife torch, you certainly get a free pass on any of my "Natural History By Sea Kayak Since 1983" sea kayaking trips! BTW, I started in Hawai'i, moved to Asia in 1989 because Asia is where we will win or lose the Planet.
